Nonprofit Connection
was founded upon and continues to operate from a position of social responsibility.

For the past 28 years, we have helped New York City nonprofits address critical organizational development issues, become better managed, more accountable, and, ultimately, deliver more effective and efficient services to their communities and constituencies
In 1976, neighborhoods throughout New York City were struggling with the City's fiscal crisis.
It was a time when community people from all walks of life, social, economic and ethnic backgrounds decided to become involved in determining what would happen in their neighborhoods.  Brooklyn In Touch Information Center (we changed our name to Nonprofit Connection in 1996) was established to transmit resources and information to neighborhood leaders and organizations.

Providing community-based organizations with access to information marked our work in the 1980s.
We established our library as a cooperating collection of The Foundation Center; published our widely-used neighborhood Profiles series -- a series of monographs focused on providing key socio-economic information about Brooklyn neighborhoods, including Bedford Stuyvesant, Bushwick, Fort Greene, Red Hook, Sunset Park, and Williamsburg; and released our Facts Sheets, a series of six publications that answered frequently asked questions about how to conduct nonprofit work.

The 1990's were decade of change for us.
We professionalized our management consulting services, established ourselves City-wide, managed a major executive transition, and changed our name to Nonprofit Connection.  At the same time, we were a partner in the City Connect Federal Grantsmanship Network, a cutting-edge technical assistance collaboration that helped nonprofits in New York City attract over $10 million in new Federal dollars.  And, we honed our expertise in planning and management issues related to community and economic development -- providing training and customized technical assistance to over 30 community development corporations throughout the city.
Throughout this 28 year journey, our staff has evolved, our name has changed, and our capacity continues to grow, but our mission has remained steadfast.  We continue to help nonprofit leaders develop and deliver the services and programs that improve the quality of life in New York City neighborhoods.
