February 4th l Breathing Easy: How Facilities Management Protects Children with Asthma

  • This 90-minute virtual training equips Head Start facilities managers, custodial staff, and operations teams with essential knowledge about how their daily work directly impacts children with asthma and respiratory conditions. Participants will understand the connection between indoor air quality, asthma triggers, and facility maintenance decisions—from choosing cleaning products and managing humidity, to preventing mold growth and improving ventilation. The session explores common asthma triggers hiding in Head Start facilities including mold, cleaning chemicals, poor ventilation, dust, and dampness, and provides actionable protocols that facilities teams can implement immediately. Through real-world scenarios and practical demonstrations, staff will learn that their work isn't just about keeping buildings clean and functional—it's about creating healthy environments where children with asthma can thrive. This training empowers the  often-overlooked facilities team to see themselves as essential health protectors.
