December 4th, 2025 | The History of Head Start

This engaging and informative training takes participants on a powerful journey through the evolution of the Head Start program—from its origins in President Lyndon B. Johnson’s War on Poverty to its ongoing impact on children, families, and communities today. Offered as a two-hour virtual or in-person session, this training connects the milestones of Head Start’s development with the mission and purpose that continue to drive the program. Through an interactive historical timeline, data-driven insights, and reflective discussion, participants will gain a renewed understanding of Head Start’s legacy and how it shapes the work we do each day.

• Participants will be able to: 
• Understand the Historical Context – Trace the origins of Head Start within the War on Poverty and its early focus on education, health, and parent engagement.
  Recognize Key Milestones – Identify major developments, including the first Performance Standards, creation of Early Head Start, and modern investments in quality and equity.
  Connect Past to Present – Relate historical achievements to current program priorities and ongoing efforts to address poverty and promote school readiness.
  Reignite Commitment – Reflect on Head Start’s enduring mission to empower families and communities, and strengthen personal and professional connection to the work.
